About 新写作 Xin Writing
Xin Writing is an independent newsletter/blog launched in September 2024 by nonfiction writer Zixin Li, who graduated from MA in Creative Writing (Nonfiction) in University East Anglia (UEA) in 2024 and had been a nonfiction writer/journalist in Chinese for over two decades.
In this newsletter, Zixin will delve into the aesthetics of creative writing in both English and Chinese, introducing these styles to readers who like to practice creative writing in their daily lives. He will also invite esteemed writers to share their insights and experiences on the craft of writing.
70% of the contents will be on nonfiction writing, which is Zixin’s main interest and long-standing expertise. In 2011, he founded SanMingZhi (三明治), a prominent nonfiction writing platform in China that has nurtured over 10,000 writers, helping many to get published. His MA in Creative Writing (Nonfiction) from UEA further expanded his understanding of nonfiction across languages and diverse cultural contexts.
Originated from starkly different historical backgrounds, creative nonfiction in English and Chinese have evolved along different paths, resulting in unique styles, purposes, and approaches to emotion and storytelling. Zixin will analyze the various components of nonfiction writing and explain how these elements function both individually and collectively.

新写作，新的开始
我是李梓新，广东潮州人，2002年自人大新闻学院毕业后成为职业记者和编辑，多年来在新闻非虚构的领域实践，也曾留学英国，采访出版了《民主是个技术活儿——英国政治走笔》、《灾难如何报道》等书。早在2006年开始，我对非虚构写作的兴趣便已逐渐从新闻写作转到大众写作，我认为大众写作，“第一人称非虚构”在中国更有现实意义和更大的文学发掘空间。2011年，从英国回来后我创作了“三明治”（微信公号：三明治），实践了对大众非虚构写作的扶持，目前已经编辑出版非虚构图书十余部，帮助了上万名中文写作者发表作品，全网粉丝五十万。(参见哥伦比亚大学新闻评论对三明治的报道）
随着中文非虚构写作图景的变迁，我逐渐认识到它和新闻写作还没完全分离，进而萌生了在学习英文非虚构写作，寻找启发的想法。2023年秋天，我到英国第一个创意写作学院，东安格利亚大学（UEA）攻读创意写作的非虚构方向硕士，开始了正式用英文写作非虚构。在这个过程，我不断体会和比较英文创意写作与中文的异同，更加明确非虚构写作通过第一人称（比如memoir, autobiography等形式），是完全具备文学上的独立美感，并已经在英文世界有长期的历史源流。这也是我想在中文世界传播的方向：让每个中文写作者都能在非虚构写作中找到文学的审美和乐趣，同时也在创意写作的不同方向上继续拓展。
这份Newsletter是一个全新的尝试，我将分享中英文的阅读选篇、书单，UEA创意写作学习笔记、日常个人写作感悟，还将邀请一些作家朋友分享他们的创作心得和经历。甚至，不止是文字形式，也包括音频播客（Podcast) 的形式。
